mix tape

i made a mix tape for a friend once and took the names of the bands and titles of the songs and created a poem from it...

i am a dead man
dancing through blue skies
thinking of you and
wishing you were here
but tomorrow never knows
of this mortal coil or
the siren's song
will it bring you
dancing back to me
sundays watching wild horses
in the fields
and cranes tangled in the
black sky
stars seem buried
six feet underground
without you
trace the teardrop down
my face like a road map
to my soul - it's your
favorite game
imminent, the last day
of our acquaintance looms
waiting to crush my heart
like a butterfly on a wheel
let love be
my savior

a little beat?

dream state

winter comes on like the end of a dream
and my mind is lost in empty metaphor
my body floats weightless and free
the clouds are the rolling of an ocean of
atmosphere surrounding and filling me completely
the wind crashes in my ears as
tiny droplets of dew cling to exposed skin
i taste ozone
looking down i can see my body is
actually still in bed lying next to her
and we look so at peace and at rest
that old oz is a crafty one!
in the morning we will
walk the beach barefoot and visit
the space needle
defiant and tall
this place will always be ours
a national treasure
a new state of mind

my own stab at the jabberwock

nonsensical

all shimmerlucent vibrulence
the neon swooshing came
lolling through the cloudscape
forblisscent just the same

dj spins the wicked beats
while the beautinous horde
shuffle and stomp enlightened feet

stars so bright in the blue black sky
cool night air on bare skin
feeling as if you could fly

all shimmerlucent vibrulence
the neon swooshing came
lolling through the cloudscape
forblisscent just the same

romanticized friendships...

a song i wrote while missing a great friend...

stream

I am truth as you are truth
No beginning and no end
This chord ties us together
Forever we'll be friends
Inspired by your love for me
Don't consume it on your lust
I need something to believe in
Someone I can trust
Someone give me something I can trust

Stream of consciousness purest thought becomes reality
Leave it all behind my love come live this dream with me

I am here as you are here
No beginning and no end
This chord ties us together
Let it be and don't pretend
Why should we think on tomorrow
It gives no heed to yesterday
Kiss me softly now my love
Let's be on our way
Kiss me
Kiss me
Let's be on our way

Stream of consciousness purest thought becomes reality
Leave it all behind my love come live this dream with me

my love is ever always...

something i wrote some time ago. fashioned after the manner of my all time favourite poet e.e. cummings....

my love is ever always quite so
wonderfulicious
new a thing
she returns life-sustaining breath to my soul and
(ambiguous tho i may seem)

her love floodingly
engulfing me
while all that i am

beams of purest light effulgent

form poetry - a sestina

so i had this creative writing class once where we did A LOT of writing - it was great, and i am trying to get back into the habit again.

this poem is a sestina. and for those who do not know, the sestina is an old fixed form of poetry, dating as far back as the twelfth century and originating in france. it consists of six six-line stanzas and a three-line concluding stanza. the ending words of the first stanza are repeated throughout each subsequent stanza in a set pattern. the same six words appear in the concluding three-line stanza, two in each line.

words often fail purest hearts intent

so many times I find that the words
simply will not come and (more often
than not) outright fail
to express even my purest
thoughts, let alone my hearts
deepest desires or intent

for should it not be so that the intent
of every (indeed all) words
spoken from my heart
as regarding my love should always and often
set the standard of pure
thoughts, desires and/or gestures above reproach lest I fail

for if I fail
in all my lovesick intent
to convey truly the only sure and purest
emotions my body can contain and speak not those words
of simple longing conjured so often
by my brain surely I should die of a broken heart

and only then perhaps to be redeemed from hearts
betrayal, and thus hope against hope! failure
turn to sweet victory over the oh so often
weakness of my flesh and all intent
thereby to enforce all that my words
could not emote though they be pure

then she purest of the purest
knowing finally of my hearts
one true devotion regardless of my few words
although innocently spoken which had failed
to convince swift as darts the intent
of my soul - speaking those words in which I do falter so often

thus I struggle with such madness often
whereby to overcome my weakness? only with pure
thoughts, words and deeds - intent
upon the prize - my one true loves heart
which forever shall I cherish and strive never to fail
her by even the least of all words

and so by this work of my heart
may I never fail
her with even the least of words
